School Governance Council Meeting Documents
Each meeting of the School Governance Council typically generates three public documents: an agenda; a brief summary of action items that occurred during the meeting; and a detailed set of meeting minutes. We will display these documents on our website for the current school year, along with those from the previous year. If you need to view older documents, please contact our School Governance & Flexibility Department at schoolgovernance@fultonschools.org.

Discussion Items
· Call to Order and Welcome Introduction from each council member.
· Nominated community member role through 2028.
o Nominations opened and discussed for individuals to fill the 2026-2028 nominated community member vacant role.
· Appointed roles.
o Discussion of the appointment of Mr. Daniel Brown, STEM instructional coach, to the council in the 2026-2028 vacancy.
o Discussion of the two non-voting student member roles. One role will be the senior class president, aligning to the SGC handbook stipulation. One role will be a leader from AVID, athletics, class/executive councils, or PBIS as the councils designated “other leadership organization” aligning to the handbook. The other the council agreed to solicit interest via a form and staff member encouragement to complete the form from these groups with final selection being made in September.
· Council required roles of chair, vice chair, and parliamentarian.
o Nominations opened and discussed for individuals to fill these roles.
· Assignment of council members to required council committees.
o Nominations and interest opened for council members to fill the required committees: Budget and Finance, Outreach and Communications, and Principal Selection.
· Strategic support funds for FY27 in the amount of $40,000 at council discretion to support strategic initiatives and aligned needs within the school.
o A review of last year’s funded initiatives included AVID, PBIS, attendance/chronic absenteeism, and Pathways2Life contracted services.
o Requests from staff/school will be solicited and initial proposals/requests brought to council in the months of September and October.
o Initial request from PBIS submitted and discussed to provide $1,600 to support the upcoming GLOW party for students that will service approximately 650 students with a high-energy dance with music, prizes, and more. The council wished to take action on this item within this meeting noting the importance of the event aligned to our strategic plans, the need for the funds, and the urgency to support this given the imminent timing of the event.
· Superintendent’s advisory council.
o Laurie Bolden will serve on the parent superintendent advisory council.
o The appointed students will serve on the student superintendent advisory council.
· Principal’s update.
o Enrollment projection/budget was 1,449 students; student count during the district’s SEAT day was 1,480. No major impact positive or negative to staffing and budget, though the school will receive some additional funding due to the increase in students. Special education is, however, serving fewer students than anticipated, so staffing impacts will occur in this area.
o The year has started smoothly and with rhythm, noting that only 5 new teachers and a few staff members have joined the team. With stability, the school has been able to hit the ground running.
o Upcoming dates were mentioned for Curriculum Night and significant Homecoming activities along with today’s televised football game.
o A specific note was made that school staff will be reporting participation data to administration about Curriculum Night family attendance so that the usefulness and effectiveness of the night can be considered while some council mentioned difficulty attending multiple classes when having multiple students and a suggestion of considering conference opportunities.
· Calendar of meetings.
o No comments requesting changes were made for the proposed calendar of meetings in this agenda. A discussion at the next meeting will occur around which meetings, if any, should be virtual.
· Next meeting: September 17th at 7:15 a.m. in the learning commons conference room.

Candidate: I am Kristen Williams, the mother of a rising freshman at Centennial High school. After serving on SGC at the elementary school level for the past two years, I am excited about the opportunity to continue serving at the high school level. I have used my experiences as a parent and former education attorney to provide input from varying perspectives. As a member of the Hillside Elementary SGC, I have supported funding measures to promote high academic standards and uphold the ambitious strategic plan. I am passionate about ensuring our neighborhood schools offer world class opportunities and excellent academics. I am running for SGC because I would like to continue to help support the strategic mission of Centennial High School and the larger East Roswell community.

o Butler motioned and Rogers seconded. Unanimous approval.
Discussion Items
· 2025-2026 Strategic Support Funds Discussion
o Council has $30,000, has already allotted AVID $5,500 and PBIS $4,500
o Pathways to Life Discussion: After looking at the student’s data, we proposed to Pathways2Life we could give $17,000 (would leave $3,500 for future).
· AVID update: Spend $1,375, two upcoming college field trips to West Georgia & trying for GA Tech, idea proposed: open the door for non-AVID kids – prosed to discuss with AVID team and present next semester
· PBIS update: $132 spent on hot chocolate, store events upcoming, Movie Night Upcoming (2 sessions)
· Discussion about upcoming meeting date changes, February no chance – next meeting February 19th (in-person), March moved to Monday March 2nd (virtual) [Keane will send out the calendar update]
· Teacher & Parent Election window open Feb 2 – March 27. Wilken & D’Amico term ending. 2 Elected slots will be open.
· Superintendent Meeting Update (students)
o Nyla spoke, main discussion at meeting was about school safety – open door policy brought up, senior reduction was brought up during this (seniors freely coming and going) – surprisingly students at the meeting were not a fan of it? Students were shown a proposed future Fulton calendar to students and had them fill out a form with feedback, on 28th of Jan. meetup at Riverwood High School – collecting personal hygiene donations and putting together bags for drives, bring in honor societies and all zones to get donations.
o Thandiwe spoke, her group’s concern was more about ANYONE allowed to come into a school and those entering not monitored. Tik-Tok trend to go to other schools and not get caught. Ideas: get IDs checked. Student safety council.
· Principle’s update:
o Next month we will have more on the budget (better picture).
o School Allotment Guidelines (Highlights): Programs most desired & needed will still be offered. ‘Squeeze’ will come from every direction. Examples: School Board eliminated Counselor Secretary Position, number of CTAE positions will go down, AVID teacher “formula” changed. Amount each school receives for every student (per pupil funding), going down by $10.
· Next meeting: Thursday February 19th (in-person)
· Adjournment: The meeting was adjourned at 8:08 AM

Sara Butler Candidate Statement: My professional role as Director of Marketing at Cox Enterprises, inc. requires a collaborative mindset, a commitment to constructive problem-solving, and a willingness to approach important topics with diplomacy and good faith. I am a consensus builder who believes in servant leadership, which is a style of management that puts the needs of the team first and prioritizes the success of the organization above personal accolades.
For the past 20 years I have focused on online content and audience engagement on a variety of platforms, including mobile and social media. My experience in demographic analysis and trendcasting gives me a view into the social environments today's teenagers are immersed in. I am accustomed to setting my own generational biases aside to fairly assess the needs and interests of Millennials and Gen Z, as well as the upcoming "Generation Alpha" who will be entering high school in the next year or two.

International Baccalaureate (IB) Program—Waiver. The changes to the IB program will allow rising juniors who have not previously taken Physical Science—a current requirement—to substitute it with another approved science course, such as IB Biology or IB Chemistry. This adjustment removes the need for summer school coursework and ensures students can still meet the necessary criteria to earn the full IB diploma.
